11/05/20 With the frame & roof trusses done, attention turns to the roof. We are doing a Colorbond roof (colour: Ironstone). Weather not helping matters – wind & rain more problematic with installing metal sheets than roof tiles, especially with our pitch being 30o. At least the materials arrived.
12/05/20 They’ve started installing the roof – gutters & fascias
13/05/20 Next day more material arrives – roof sheets & sarking
… and battens getting stood up
19/05/20 Met the site supervisor for the first time now that COVID-19 restrictions are easing – went through the independent inspection report. Thankfully, nothing of note, small items which they schedule for the next step. Used it as a learning opportunity to understand how they sequence work, and tried to clarify a few things – more for my understanding rather than any drastic changes. Too late for a moat & drawbridge?
20/05/20 Saw a break in the weather at noon & thought I might catch them installing the roof, but I missed them & the roof was on …
View from inside looking up at the sarking, whirly bird & battens. Because we have gone for a thicker insulation in the roof space, we went with regular sarking, i.e. the one without wool. Time will tell whether we should have also made the sarking thicker to keep the noise down. Will wait for that first heavy thunderstorm or possums playing soccer on the roof
And a closer look up top … from the back north side of the house looking to the front & the money tree …
And from the front south front side of the house looking back … interesting how the change of angle seems to change the colour …
And from the exact same spot rotated 90o left and the colour changes again (view along the front)
Last view from the backyard. Starting to look like a house … a draughty house, but a house nonetheless
Roof done. Next step is wrapping, bricks, and upstairs windows. Ciao for now.
