Holywood – Sunday 14/5/17

A recommendation from one of the locals. Rory’s home club. Set in the hills a mere 15mins from the city, with many views over the water.

Great track with lots of testing tee shots to blind landing spots & relatively small landing areas around the greens. Not a long course with a bit of backtracking from greens to the next tee. Bit of bugger when you snaphook your drive & didn’t bring a provisional 🙂 Played behind the next 3 Rory’s – kids probably no more than 10-11 yrs old, yet hit a great ball & moved quickly.  Refreshing to see kids without a mechanical, elaborate & time consuming pre-shot routine. Finished in 3 hrs. Must be in their DNA. Felt weird not carrying a sand bucket but as I’m learning it’s common practice here.

The little ones in front had the right line – massive slope right to left feeding off anything that did not catch the left 10m of the fairway.

The holes are nicely framed by the trees so despite the holes overlapping one still feels secluded. The 14th here is a good hole, with a slight dog leg right hitting over a massive drop.
